Scotty Kilmer is a great source for automotive advice. Search YouTube for the Scotty Kilmer “Should You Change Your Car’s Transmission Fluid?”. That includes transmissions with ‘lifetime’ fluid. Regardless of which choice you make, OEM or non-OEM, change your ATF fluid at least every 50K. The Castrol fluid is about 1/3 the cost of the OEM fluid, so if you’re budget conscious it is a good alternative to OEM ATF, in my opinion. Other than that I haven’t observed any other performance differences. The car running the Castrol fluid shifts a little smoother than the Honda fluid. I’m using Castrol Import Multi-Vehicle in my 07 Honda Accord, and Honda ATF in my 06 Honda Odyssey. Installing an extra transmission cooler, and keeping the fluid fresh will help extend the life of the transmission. It degrades the fluid and ultimately shortens the transmissions life. The number one enemy of a transmission is excess heat. However, in my case, I do a complete change of my cars ATF fluid at least once a year, or a drain and fill with every fourth oil change.Īdmittedly I’m over servicing my transmissions, but all of my cars are high mileage ( 200K+), and working fine. The simple truth is you can’t go wrong or be faulted for using the expensive vehicle manufacturers ATF fluid. Smooth, precise shifting extraordinary protection prevents wear and tear. This product will stop wear and tear like nothing you’ve ever tried.
